Washington, DC – Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today voted to authorize critical defense spending as the House passed H.R. 2810, the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).
The NDAA provides for our national defense by authorizing a 2.4 percent pay raise for our military troops, increasing Army, Navy and Air Force personnel, authorizing funding for critical missile defense systems, and ensuring that the United States military has the resources to remain the premiere fighting force in the world.
The NDAA included an amendment authored by DeSantis to hinder North Korea’s illicit nuclear program. The DeSantis amendment calls for an assessment to determine which Chinese companies have ties to North Korea, particularly those contracting with the Department of Defense, and authorizes the Secretary of Defense to terminate or prohibit contracts based on that assessment.
“As Kim Jong-un escalates his crazed campaign for a nuclear weapon, the United States needs to take action to stymie those efforts,” DeSantis said. “Denying access to our financial markets to Chinese companies willingly working with North Korea will have a significant impact and send a clear message that China can no longer accommodate the maniacal Kim regime without consequence.”
DeSantis continued, “The NDAA will also strengthen our military, by providing our troops with a much-deserved pay raise and funding investments in defense infrastructure and weapons systems.”
