Daytona Beach, FL – Early this morning, Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) joined cadets from local Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) detachments at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University for physical training followed by breakfast with the cadets. DeSantis is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and an officer in the United States Navy reserve.
“Stepping forward to serve our nation is an honorable commitment and I commend these young men and women for their dedication to our country,” DeSantis said. “It was a pleasure to share with them how my experiences in the military have significantly shaped the way that I approach policies related to our national defense and service members. Thank you to the cadets for their invitation and I wish them the best in their military careers.”
"Our goal was to provide Embry-Riddle, Bethune-Cookman, Stetson, and Daytona State cadets with an opportunity to ask questions and learn about the legislative process, the relationship between Congress and the military, and ultimately, how current trends and policies will affect their future careers as U.S. Army officers,” Thomas Wheatley, Battalion Commander of the Army ROTC detachment at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, said. “I speak on behalf of all of our nearly 200 cadets when I say that we were thrilled to meet with Congressman DeSantis, and we hope that he comes to visit us again soon."
