Washington, DC – Iran has detained ten members of the United States Navy in the Persian Gulf. Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06), Chairman of the Subcommittee on National Security and a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserve, has issued the following statement:

“President Obama is scheduled to address our nation and will no doubt tell the American people that his nuclear deal with Iran was a success, yet just today ten of our Navy sailors have been detained by the Iranian regime. While the prompt return of the sailors is an immediate priority, assurances made by the Iranian regime about the safe return of our sailors are not worth much. As commander-in-chief, President Obama needs to do everything in his power to liberate these sailors from Iranian custody.  So long as our sailors remain in Iranian hands, platitudes about the state of the union will ring hollow.”
