Washington, DC – Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today introduced the State Sanctions Against Iranian Terrorism Act to protect and support state-level sanctioning authority against Iran.

“Over thirty states, including Florida, have taken a stand against the Iranian regime by passing divestment or sanction measures,” DeSantis said. “Strengthening state authority to issue sanctions against the world’s leading state sponsor of terror will bolster our national security.”

The State Sanctions Against Iranian Terrorism Act provides that state sanctions passed pursuant to the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability, and Divestment Act of 2010 (CISADA) are not preempted by any Federal law, regulation, policy, or agreement. The Act empowers states with additional authority to expand the scope of divestment and sanctions while ensuring that Congress, not the Executive Branch, has the sole authority to limit state action.
