Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) announced today that Abigail Marais, a student at Seabreeze High School, has won the 2017 Congressional Art Competition with her colored pencil artwork titled “Austin.”  Marais will receive complimentary airfare for herself and a guest to attend an unveiling ceremony at the United States Capitol, where her artwork will be displayed for one year.

“It is always a joy to see the colorful and creative artwork submitted by students for the Congressional Art Competition,” DeSantis said. “This year we had over 40 incredible entries! Congratulations to Abigail for her winning portrait; I look forward to seeing it hanging in the United States Capitol. Thank you to our esteemed panel for determining a winner and our local teachers who help foster the artistic talents of our students every single day.”

Charles Schaefer, local oil painter and owner of the Charles Schaefer Art Studio; Rick Cannizzaro, acrylic painter; and Jane Mealy, longtime art collector and Chairwoman of the Flagler Beach City Commission, determined a winner during a reception held at the Ocean Art Gallery in Flagler Beach.
