St. Augustine, FL – Rep. Ron DeSantis (FL-06) today announced that his office will begin accepting submissions for the 2014 Congressional Art Competition starting on Monday, March 10. Students may submit their original artwork for entrance into the competition through Monday, March 31.
“I look forward to seeing the creative talents from Florida’s 6th district displayed in the Capitol and my district offices every year,” DeSantis said. “I have no doubt it will be difficult for constituents to choose their favorite works of art. I encourage all eligible students to enter the competition!”
Once submitted, entries will be posted on DeSantis’ official Facebook page starting Tuesday, April 1 until Friday, April 18, and constituents will be encouraged to vote on their favorite artwork. At the end of the third week, the 10 submissions with the most “likes” will be presented to a panel of local judges from the 6th district of Florida who will then determine a winner.
The winning piece of artwork will be displayed at the United States Capitol for one year. The second and third place winners will be displayed in DeSantis’ district offices. Transportation will be provided for the first place winner and a guest to fly to Washington, D.C. to see their art displayed during an unveiling ceremony in June.
Teachers and students interested in the Congressional Art Competition should contact DeSantis’ Washington office at 202-225-2706 or visit desantis.house.gov for further information on submission guidelines and criteria.
